Sorting and Grading Potatoes
|
The Kerian Sizer was originally developed to sort potatoes by size. For round potato varieties the sizer is typically made with a set of straight potato-spool rollers like those shown in the video here. These rollers gently carry the potatoes forward while the
distance between the rollers slowly and gradually increases so that the potatoes will be brought by the takeaway conveyor beneath the rollers to the side of the sizer, neatly graded by size. The spools provide four points of contact with each potato to maximize the accuracy of the grading. The sizes that the potatoes are sorted into can be quickly and easily adjusted by moving the dividers on the takeaway conveyor. |
